About us

Furternity House started with a vision to create a place where pets could stay while owners were away at work or play. We wanted to offer the local community members a facility that was focused on being clean, safe, loving, comfy and fun while maintaining affordability and convenience. We designed the facility specifically to offer many comforts of home. You can see in the images here how our facility has gone from a basic shop building to a boarding facility over a 6 month process. My husband and I worked very hard to build the kennel stalls, update the lighting, upgrade the hot water source and plumbing. We also transformed our basic concrete floor into a beautiful, easy to clean, non porous epoxy surface.

We are not about numbers so we do not cram pets into small spaces or charge you more for heavy pets. Our fees are based on services rendered and are designed to benefit the businesses ability to pay staff and maintain monthly costs (read more on fees on our Pricing page). We are not the typical facility either. There will be no chain link fence inside the stalls and each pet will have a private place to rest and eat. We know some pets play well with others so we do allow group play accordingly but also offer individual play time for pets who have special needs. We do not offer full grooming services yet but know that if your pet gets dirty while at play in our house we will surely not send them home that way.
We know that vacations and work time are much more enjoyable when you have nothing to worry about. Our commitment to you is that we will love and care for your pets as if they were our own. Our commitment to your pets is that they will have a great time in a safe environment until you return. We look forward to meeting you all and taking you and your pets on our journey of growth, Follow us on Facebook and instagram for updates.

We have big goals for Furternity House, but we know its a long game so we are working our Road Map one phase at a time.
Furternity House has been a true blessing for our family. The kennels are clean and modern. The location makes it an easy commute from Conrad, Shelby and Valier. Mandy provides my dog with excellent care when I am unable to travel with her. I have a large dog and she always comes home happy with time having been devoted to playtime and exercise. Mandy asks all the right questions and I will definitely bring my dog to Furternity House in the future for boarding needs.

What a Great Place. If you knowus we don't leave our dogs very often but we feel very comfortable with them staying at Furternity House. Our dogs love it there! Mandy went out of her way to help us get our schedule to work right with all the softball we did over the weekend! She was AWESOME!
Thank you Mandy.

My Pup is always so excited to go to daycare at Furternity House! Mandy takes great care of him, ensuring that he gets plenty of physical exercise combined with mental stimulation. I'm very happy to have Furternity House as a local daycare option.

About Me.
Born Christmas Day in Minnesota somehow life brought me out to California, at a young age, where I lived most of my life. Growing up in the states capital and surrounding areas. Most of my extended family was close and we spent every Holiday together. All the years growing up we had animals; Cats, Fish, Dogs and as an adult I continued that with the addition of some reptiles as well. I never had the chance to live on a farm but anytime we went to the state fair and walked the livestock area I simply loved to see the goats, cows and horses. Its been a life long dream of mine to have a small farm, something that would sustain my family and maybe even have enough to share with friends. My husband is an Army Veteran and a member of the CVMA (Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association) I am an auxilary member and could not have asked for a better group of people to surround myself with. Our originating Chapter 33-7 California Capital Chapter was a small group when we joined and I got to watch it grow exponentially. I really enjoy riding my own motor cycle more than sitting on the back of someone elses. There is just something liberating and exciting about seeing the landscape from the riders seat. However the rewarding gratitude you feel inside when helping other veterans in need outweighs all the fun to be had, its making a difference that at times is ALL the difference to someone that really warms a heart.

Anyway after leaving my 21 year career with Kasier Permanente my husband got a position with Customs and Boarder Protection as an Officer and we chose the location of Montana. Several factors played into this choice and I personally am so glad we made this decision. Its been a little tough starting out, but nothing we weren't able to handle. There are few folks in town who know a bit of the story but I can tell you that anytime. The point is, I was here he had a job and I did not. We found the perfect home on a small plot of land and upon seeing it I knew what I wanted to do. Having a deep love for dogs, Veterans and gardening I knew we were in the right place. So though we lived the first three months here in the Shelby Comfort Inn with our 3 large Dogs I knew all the tough stuff was neccessary.

So He went off to training and I spent 2 months in the hotel, moved into our home with the help of some family and a friend we knew out in Columbia Falls. Once I got Settled I began Demolishing the internal workings of a portion of our shop. He came home mid August 2022 from training and then helped with some internal build projects. We transformed the shop from what it was to the Kennel you see now at Furterniy House. It has been a great learning experience for me and while it is not entirely what I envisioned I have plenty of time to make it what I want. I have goals for this business to grow into something that can give back to the community in more ways than just aleiveating a need for pet care. I would like to see it one day employ veterans in need and maybe even non violent offenders in their process of rehabilitation and reintergration. In addition I would like to see it become something that can also save more animals. I have always loved the underdogs so a rescure for what are known as the bully breeds, dogs that many people fear due to stigmas created by inadaquate owners would really bring me joy. In addition, I'd love to be able to have our own small veterinary office right here on site. I know there are vet offices here in town but it is my experience that availability is limited and not specialized. If our pets have a provider that specializes in them like we would have a doctor ourselves their quality of life, nutrtition and availability to emergency response would soar. When our pets are in optimal health both body and mind they are happier, more stable and less likely to be reactive or aggressive, this is why I've also begun the process of training to become a Certified Personal Dog Trainer.

American River College was and possibly still is one of the best community colleges in California. I completed my associates degree in business with a focus on healthcare administration as well as obtaining a certificate in Real Estate.
For 21 years I worked for a large health care organization, starting out in their call center. After 4 years on the phones and three years in the staffing department assisting the call performance managers. I then moved into a position called OCR document reviewer, we electronically entered all bills that were sent from patients who saw doctors outside our network. I really enjoyed the work I did and I was really good at it. I actually became lead in that department . While there a previous boss contacted me and told me they were hiring for Call Performance managers, the job was remote, and she thought I would be a really great addition. So I applied, got the job and worked there for another 7 years. During the last year I had some issues with a repetitive motion injury, working 21 years in keyboard intensive jobs did a number on my arms. After About a year off on workers compensation, tons of physical therapy and of course the spur of the pandemic I made a decision to leave that job and look for something physical that would keep me active and healthy.
I worked for USPS for 3 months during their busiest season. I left them just before Christmas because opening and closing the doors on those ancient mail trucks was not helping my arms. I really loved that job but had to think of my health.

I reccently completed several courses in Pet boarding administered by "Professional Pet Boarding Certification Council". You can view these in the lobby. In November of 2023 I began taking Certified Personal Dog Trainer Courses through The Will Atherton Academy and am currently working through those courses at my pace while working all aspects of Furternity House needs.
